If there is one thing about training little kids that I hate, it's when parents tell me - KICK MY KIDS ASS! I get it. You want them to work hard. You want them to improve. Develop some grit! But just simply kicking your kid's ass will do very little for them, other than quite possibly creating a sense of…

The Push-Up has to be one of the most poorly performed exercises there is. It looks simple. Bend your elbows, lower yourself down and push back up. What most people don't realize is that the Push-Up is more of a core exercise than really anything else. There are a few common mistakes with the Push-Up that can be fixed with one thing...…

I recorded a quicky podcast today with just myself. I had a question on my most recent blog article 3 Exercises For Beginners To Build Power that I thought I would go a little deeper in the answer than a blog post could go.     Check it out and feel free to discuss anything at all or ask questions for…

For BMX, strong and mobile shoulders are essential. Try holding onto your handlebars without your shoulders... see how important they are?! Just kidding, but really they are what connect the arms to the "core". Without that solid connection you will be lacking power. Strength in the shoulder is also really important when it comes to remaining healthy when you crash.…

Hi guys! Just a quick article and video this week. In the video I give you 4 different exercises you can do with one Superband.   Superband's are a great training tool because they're very versatile, cheap and easily transportable. If you're creative you can do a ton of things with a Superband. In this video I show you how to…

I had a few comments and messages that I thought I would clear up on the topic of BMX Conditioning.   Question Tony Hoffman posed an interesting question on my Facebook page which led to a little conversation...   My Answers   The great thing about our body is - once we build an adequate amount of Aerobic capacity through…

Strength training is often viewed in many sports as a waste of time. Strength training for BMX is no exception. Some people feel that the very best way to get faster is to just ride the bike. They are right. They are right in the short term but wrong in the long run. Let me explain. I think strength and…

Most of you know Tony Hoffman. For those of you who don't, I think you will be pretty impressed with his story. He's not your typical Pro BMX Racer/BMX coach. If you heard his story, you would think he's 40 years old with the amount he's accomplished. I hope you're inspired by his story as much as I am. To go from a homeless drug addict, to prison, from there to banging bars with some of the best BMX racers in the world, public speaking, forming non- profits, running summer camps, and coaching athletes to the top of their class in only a few short years. That may be the longest sentence ever written, but it's nearly impossible to fit all he's done in one line. So if you get nothing out of this interview as far as BMX goes, you should take away a few of his tips to be more successful at life.   tony-hoffman

This is another guest post by my friend Jukka. In this post he goes over some general strength guidlines for how strong you should be for BMX racing. Are you strong enough, or could you possibly be too strong? Hope you enjoy the post, and thanks again Jukka!
